Meet the Doctors

Dr. Andrew Tomash, DDS, FRCD(C)

Certified Specialist in Pediatric Dentistry

Dr. Andrew Tomash attended Dalhousie University where he obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery. Andrew spent his first three years as a dentist in private practice in Ottawa, Ontario where he found his passion treating pediatric patients. He travelled twice to Nunavut to partake in relief programs offering dental care to children in remote communities.

Andrew then decided to dedicate his practice to children and teens and pursued a pediatric dental specialty program. In 2018, he relocated to Rochester, New York where he completed a 2-year pediatric program and was awarded a Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry from the University of Rochester – Eastman Institute for Oral Health.

Andrew, his wife Zoe, and their cat Ellie moved to Victoria in 2020 and they love the west coast. When he is away from the office, Andrew enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching sports, and exploring the beautiful coast.

Dr. Yale Rao, DMD, MS, Phd

Dr. Rao studied and earned his dental degree at West China University of Medical Sciences, graduating in 1984; then continuing his studies there through 1990, during which time he advanced his clinical skills in orthodontic specialty, earning Master of Science and PhD. Dr. Rao was an Associate Professor at the dental school between 1990-1993. From 1993-1996, Dr. Rao was a visiting professor at UCSF and University of Connecticut.

He was a research scientist at the University of Toronto between 1996-1998.
Dr. Rao then attended UBC, where he studied and qualified to practice dentistry in Canada, earning his D.D.S. degree. Following graduation from UBC, he relocated to Victoria where he has practiced ever since.

Dr. Brian Draper, BSc,DDS, MSc,FRCD(C)

Certified Specialist in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Dr. Draper attended the University of Alberta for his first two degrees, Pharmacy (BSc) and Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS). He practised general dentistry for 5 years in Banff, Alberta following which he relocated to Halifax, Nova Scotia to complete the residency program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the Queen Alexandra Hospital and Isaac Walton Killam Children’s Hospital, 

affiliated with Dalhousie University Dental and Medical schools. He had maintained an active private surgical practice here in Victoria for many years, working at both Royal Jubilee and Victoria General Hospitals. He was the Chief of the Section of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Department of Surgery, for Island Health from 1994 – 2014, following which he retired from hospital practice. He and his wife Wendy enjoy the outdoor life here in BC, active in hiking, cycling and skiing.

Dr. Jane Henderson, MD, FRCPC(C)

Pediatric Anesthesiologist

Dr Jane Henderson graduated in Medicine from Dalhousie University in Halifax and moved to Ottawa where she completed a residency in Anesthesia and then a Fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesia at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario. She practiced anesthesia for 10 years at the Montreal Children’s Hospital and was an Associate Professor with McGill University. Jane worked for 17 years at the Dalhousie 

University teaching hospitals in Halifax before her move to Victoria in 2019. It is a complete pleasure for Jane to work with the team at the dental clinic caring for our young patients.

Jane spends most of her spare time outdoors taking in the beautiful surroundings while hiking with her son and walks with friends. She does not miss eastern Canadian winters.
